This week Female Voices Of Metal And Rock caught up with the amazing Patricia Pons - SynlakrosS, incredible frontwoman for Spanish metal maestro’s SynlakrosS who have just released their fantastic fifth studio album “Mental Parasites”.
Make sure to add it to your playlist!
1 How did it all begin for SynlakrosS?
Patricia: In 2008, Pablo (Roro) founded the band. He wanted to create a melodic Death Metal band. I joined in 2010 and we started working all together on the existing songs and creating new ones.
2 The new SynlakrosS album “Mental Parasites” tackles some very difficult subject matter. What inspired you guys to write it?
Patricia: To write these lyrics I have been inspired by my own personal experience, but also by things that have happened to other people, such as some of my patrons. Some of them have been kind enough to share with me their experiences, which have been very similar or even the same as mine.
After the pandemic, I felt the need to talk about these issues and create something that would make us feel connected, since these are very universal experiences and facts.
3 What bands or artists have influenced you the most?
Patricia: Jonathan Davis (Korn), Kyo (Dir En Grey), Jimmy Urine (Mindless Self indulgence) Marylin Manson, Sandra Nasic (Guano Apes) and In Flames among others.
4 Who is currently on your playlist?
Patricia: Lorna Shore, Infant Annihilator, The Bridge City Sinners, Ghostemane, Arabic instrumental music... I listen to a wide variety of music and a wide variety of styles. I like to discover new things.
5 What was the last gig you went to?
Patricia: Gutalax
6 How has it been for you as a woman working in Metal and what things if any would you like to see change?
Patricia: I've seen things change, I've seen more acceptance and respect, but there's still a lot that needs to change, like stopping saying things like, "She's the female version of that male singer."I never hear/see that comparison backwards.
And how often we are treated like pieces of meat and our worth is directly tied to whether or not we're considered attractive and "sexy," the music and how good or not that vocalist is doesn't seem to matter to anyone.
So there's a lot that needs to change.
7 What would you do if you weren’t a musician?
Patricia: I can't imagine myself doing anything other than being a musician, but I would definitely do something artistic and related to entertainment, like a dancer, actress, circus artist... I don't know, I have many interests and I like to try new things.
8 Where do you call home and what is the best thing about living there?
Patricia: I live in Valencia, Spain. I like my city. It's small, but there are amazing things and a lot of art. The people are nice and it's always sunny.
I also like the light in Valencia. Every place has a different light, the one here is warm and bright.
9 What is next for SynlakrosS?
Patricia: We have more music videos and tours planned after the release of the new album on October 3rd. Also, we will soon start working on the next album.
10 Who is best cats or dogs?
Patricia: Both! One of my family members is a sweet, adorable dog, but I grew up with wonderful cats and still love them.
11 Finally, please tell us an interesting or funny fact or story about yourselves.
Patricia: I think that's always someone else's job hahaha But we always have fun things happening when we go on tour, luckily all the band members are very cheerful and funny, they’re always joking 🙂
